Nothing new

Not much to report today.

I did get a chance to go to my grandma's and work on the quilt I am making the baby. It is a raggedy quilt and I am so excited. I actually got all the quilting done today I just have to cut the slits and it will be done.

We are ready to go, our bags our packed and the room is ready, all we need now is 'THE PHONE CALL'!!!

We will be having lunch with the birth mother tomorrow and we are very excited for that as well.

We will just continue to pray that the birth mother may stay comfortable in her last days and have an easy labor and delivery. That our baby may be healthy. That the wait will remain to go smoothly.

Clarification/'Bud'

I just need to clarify that the drawers on the shelf system are NOT blue. They are purple and black to match the K-state theme in the babies room. I may be loosing it, but I'm not that far gone to post something that would be that telling. Nice try though I love how you all are analyzing every last little thing Mark or I do to try and figure this one out.

'Bud' - I have a peace lilly in my living room that I've had and miraculously kept alive since my Grandpa Buds funeral. It has not had many blooms in its day and hasn't had one at all for over a year now. Two days ago I went to water it and it has a 'BUD'!!! I truly believe that this means the baby is coming soon and that my grandpa is letting me know in his own way, and that he wants to be here to meet his new grandchild. I can't wait - the baby is on its way!!!

Waiting...

Not much new to report here, just more waiting and some more preparing.

We put together our new shelf/storage unit Sat. night. We actually had a date night Sat night. We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner then to target to buy said shelf/storage unit, followed by JCPenny to exchange an outfit we had gotten for a different one. My best friend sent us a girl outfit and a boy outfit and we had to exchange one of them :) It was fun to look at the cute clothes. We then went to the Warren and watched hangover, it was pretty funny.

Today we took it pretty easy we went to church then packed hospital bags and did some laundry. We took an afternoon nap and went to a wingnuts game this evening with the miracle league. We had a good time.

WE ARE SOOOO EXCITED!!! We will actually be having lunch with the birth mother on Wednesday to just visit and exchange a few things. We will be giving her a copy of our portfolio, and she will be giving us a few sonogram pictures and some stuff she got for the baby. While I hope she goes into labor before Wednesday I also hope she doesn't as I said before I would absolutely love the chance to feel the baby kick. My luck, the baby will be sleeping during lunch time that day.

This is our new bookshelf/storage unit - I love it, but I guess I should since I picked it out. (Thanks Mark, I love you)

We have the babies bed ready for our baby!!! K-state quilt and all.

Thanks again for all the thoughts and prayers, keep them coming. We'll keep you posted.

news

We just wanted to let you know that we aren't keeping anything from you we just don't have any new news.

We have picked out a name and we think we know how we are going to spell it. We have picked Godparents, but haven't asked them yet so can't say who. We are working on getting the babies room fully ready. We went to Target today and got a new shelf system we are going to put in there.

And... we put the car seat in my car. I was NOT excited for that at all and it was one of the easiest things we've done to get ready. The latch system is amazing!!!

Well, gonna go I think we are going to try and put together our new shelf system. I wish we had more car seats to put in that would be easier.

Most importantly though, please continue to pray that all of this continues to move smoothly. Pray for peace, patience, and swiftness. I don't just mean so we can meet our baby, but for the birth mother so she may not have to endure being pregnant in such heat any longer and for the delivery. That it may be quick and as pain free as possible. Thanks in advance for your continued prayers during this joyful time.

doctors appointment

The birth mother called me this evening to let me know how her doctors appointment went.

It went well :)

The doctor would not make a guess as to how big the baby was going to be because it would be just that, a guess. So we will all just have to wait and see.

She tested negative for group B Strep.

She is now dialated to a 3!!! That is progress so we will take it!

By the way - Amy you were right - Mark is excited to try new foods. I'm excited he gets to and I can have a bowl of pasta for dinner without feeling bad for not cooking more. (if you are confused, please see my post from yesterday about the food calendar that Brandi set up for Mark and I)

I would also like to add a request for prayers for the birth mother to have a swift and easy delivery.

Conversation with Birth Mother

So I spoke with our child's birth mother today and it went really well.

We talked about the plans for 'the big day' and got that all set. As is stands now she will call Mark and or I when she is heading to the hospital. We will then head up to the hospital and wait on pins and needles to meet our baby. She will spend some personal time with the baby and then the baby will be delivered to Mark and I and I will be able to give the baby the first feeding. I was so excited when she said that. What a blessing she has been for us.

We also spoke about if she wanted a copy of our portfolio, if she knew how big they thought the baby was going to be and if we could have a sonogram picture.

Yes, she wants a copy of our portfolio
She doesn't know what size the baby is, but is going to ask at her doctors appointment tomorrow morning.
Yes, we can have a sonogram picture or more than one.

Today was her last day of work until delivery and I have next week off so we will be having a lunch together one day next week to exchange items and visit. I'm really hoping I'll be able to feel the baby kick!!!

It was a great conversation. Mark and I are getting so excited and are as ready as we can be.

She is planning to call me tomorrow after her doctors appointment to let me know how it went, but she said she is still NOT having any contractions.

Food/Dinner

My sister-in-law Brandi made a neat meal calendar for Mark and I. Speaking of Brandi, she got her results back today and they were negative! Meaning she most likely doesn't have Lupus. YEAH!!! Although now we are waiting for answers. :(

Ok, back to the food calendar. If you would like to sign up to bring Mark and I some yummy food while we are taking time to enjoy our new baby!!! (that sounds so funny) then you can do so using this site and not worry about bringing food the same night as someone else or the same dish as the night before.

The site is: http://www.carecalendar.org/logon/18395

The calendar id is: 18395
The security code is: 5737

When you enter the calendar click on July and click on one of the open Meal buttons to add your meal and information.

Thanks Brandi for setting this up for us :)

Lawyer

It went well!

We visited with our lawyer for about an hour and a half and got a LOT of information. We talked about different scenarios and all the what ifs. None of which are big concerns. Again it went well and he shared again at how lucky we were to have found a birth mother as good as we did. That is such a relief.

I know a big question everyone has had is how or when do we know when the baby is coming? - the birth mother will call us.

Do we (Mark and I) get a room at the hospital? If there is an extra room otherwise NO.

How or when do you all get to know? Whenever Mark and I decide to call - which we haven't done yet. (we are working on it)

As for everything else it depends on the birth mothers 'birth plan' and we don't know it yet.

We appriciate all of your support - it is overwhelming and appriciated. We will keep you posted.

update

Ok, so I left off with Sunday night.

I forgot to add to that that my mother bought us our travel system (car seat and stroller) while we were registering on Sunday so we have that now and I LOVE it. I guess I should since I picked it out.

Mark and I then on Sunday evening put together the stroller, bassinet, and a new storage system thingy I bought at Wal-mart. It's looking pretty babyfied around here.

Monday was a crazy busy day. Mark and I were ready to go and get things done. We got a pediatrician (Dr. Steve Chavez), got insurance mumbo gumbo figured out, printed a list of daycare providers (talk about a headache), called the church about baptism, nailed down a name (we are about 95% sure we have this picked out), started cleaning out the closet in the baby room and started some laundry!!!

I also got to go and get a massage. I had received a gift certificate from one of my students at the end of the year and I enjoyed it. It was much needed and felt great.

Mark has been FANTASTIC - trying to help out whenever and however possible to keep me sain (may be a lost cause at this point), but I am Very grateful for him and can not wait to watch him be a daddy - he is going to be one of the best I'm sure of it. I know he is one of the best husbands and I'm sure he will be even a better daddy.

That pretty much sums up our Monday.

FYI - we meet with our lawyer tomorrow to discuss everything. We will keep you posted.

Please continue to pray for all involved. Hopefully this blog will be full of pictures SOON!

Brandi

Just wanted to update everyone on my sister-in-law. She ended up in the emergency room on Sat. night, with chest pain. They did not find anything serious which is good, but she is still experiencing the pain. Her ankles are hurting her as well now. This is just all so strange.

She did go in yesterday to get her blood drawn and they should get the results back by the end of this week.

We also found out she and her beautiful children are going to bless us with their presence here in Kansas for a while. She could use some help and who better than family. I can't wait to see her and give a HUGE hug and meet my newist neice!!!

Please continue to pray for her and her family and that she may experience complete healing.

weekend

Well, as you can imagine our weekend was CRAZY!!!

Sat. morning (since my t-ball game was cancelled due to the weather) Mark and I headed to Babies R Us to register for gifts. Mainly focusing on a car seat as that was the one item we could think of that we HAD to have to get the baby home from the hospital.

That was such an overhwhelming experience. We have NO clue which bottles to get or pacifiers. We did our best and tried to keep it fun. I'm sure you will all laugh when you see our registry. I think we put 5 or 6 differant kinds of pacifiers on there. We did get our car seat picked out and we decided to go with a car seat/stroller combo. WE LOVE IT!!! And my mom and dad have already purchased it for us and we put it together last night.

Then Sunday as Mark was golfing for fathers day, my mom and I went to Wal-mart to finish our registry. We had an ok time after we found a wal-mart that could do registry. Just in case you need to know you can't register at the Kellogg wal-mart right now. That was something else.

Oh well, we got it done and I'm glad.

That pretty much catches you up to Sunday night.

Please continue to pray for the birth mother, the baby, and Mark and I. We are hanging in there, but man is this ever stressful. I collapsed tonight after dinner, I went to just sit and think on the loveseat and then next thing I knew it was 2 hours later.

We also meet with our lawyer on Wednesday - so pray that that goes well.

still here

We didn't disappear we are just still realing from the news and trying to get ready.

When the birth mother called me the other day I was SOOOO excited and wanted to tell Mark SOOO bad. I tried to call him right away and he didn't answer - so I got in my car and drove to his work. I went straight to his cubical and HE WASN'T there. I thne went to his buddy Cody's cub right by his and he wasn't there so I went to his helpers cube and she only knew he was in a meeting, but not where it was or how long it was. So Then..... I went to our buddy Casey's cube and interupted (sorry) a conversation with whoever he was talking to (at this point it could have been the president of the company and I wouldn't have known any better or cared for that matter) He told me Mark was in a meeting that I COULDN'T get him out of. I was bummbed. So I drove to Dillons and bought some happy Father's Day balloons and congratulations balloons and drove them up to his work. When I was pulling back into his parking lot he called me and I just hung up. Then he texted me asking where I was. Everyone I had hounded before had told him I was there and obviously wanted to see him, so the jig was up. I texted him back and said I'm coming. Then I walked straight into his office and gave him a HUGE hug. The two of us haven't been so happy in a L O N G time. Neither of us could stop smiling the rest of the day. It was a crazy evening too. We had already made plans to go to Garden Plain and watch three of our neices and nephews play ball. Which just worked out well because while there we got to tell. My mom, grandma, sister, 3 nephews and a neice as well as Marks brother, sister and 3 nephews and 4 nieces. Great night, but I was emotionally drained by the end of it all.

Can't wait to share more as we wait for the arrival. I'll probably fill you in on my registering adventures next. I will never look at babies r us and walmart the same.

Please continue to pray that the baby and the birth mother stay healthy. Also that everything goes as planned. And possible for a little sanity for me :)

Just in time...

Mark and I couldn't have asked for better news for fathers day other than the call we got today from the birth mother - letting us know she has chosen US!!!!!!

All our/your prayers have been answered.

I got a call at 1:30 today from the birth mother letting me know that she had been to the doctor and the appointment went well. The doctor told her that they would go ahead and make an appointment for next week, but that she wasn't sure she would make it to next week. OMG!!! :) :) :)

We can not wait and couldn't be more excited. There is way more to share about our conversation, but I will wait and spread to story out. She is due July 12th, but it looks like it may happen earlier.

Thanks for EVERYTHING - your prayers and support have meant so much and will continue to mean everything to us. The birth mother will be meeting with our lawyer on Monday morning and then Mark and I will meet with him on Tuesday or Wednesday to try and nail down some more of the plans. Such as: Will we get to be at the hospital??? etc...

One thing the Birth Mother did request is that she be able to be present at the baptism. We of course said that she is more than welcome to attend. Ok, I'm rambling, but it has been a CRAZY afternoon and my mind is rolling with thoughts and ideas: Daycare, baptism, girl names, boy names (hee hee), godparents, insurance, showers, registering, etc... You can imagine.

Ok, gonna go - again thanks for the prayers before and now.

This will be a very active blog for a while so keep checking in on us. :)

Brandi

I spoke with Brandi last night and she was having a GOOD day! We were thankful for that. I just wanted to keep you all updated and let you know that she is going to the doctor next Monday. I guess they are going to run some more blood work. I have no idea what for specifically, but it is to hopefully get them some actual answers about what it IS. They are thankful to know some things it is NOT, but would really like an answer about why her body is doing the things it's doing. She will not be seeing the second opinion doctor until early July now.

Please pray for answers and healing. I'll keep you posted as I know more.

P.S. As far as we know the birth mother has yet to choose - Thanks for those prayers too. We appreciate each and every one of them!

Amazing story :)

As most of you know if you've been reading my blog, I am coaching a t-ball team for children with disabilities this summer and absolutely loving it. I am blessed to get to have 4 of my own students on the team plus 6 other wonderful kids.

Well, this weekend Greg (my brother-in-law), who happens to work for channel 12 came to the ball fields with his camera and a reporter and did a story on the miracle league. They did a great job and Greg got some amazing footage. The story aired last night on the news and was GREAT!!! Greg did such a good job of getting footage of the game as well as comments from the players, coaches, and parents. I know I cried and I spoke with 3 parents and 4 para's who did as well just from watching a story on the news, that's how good it is. If you have time please go online and check it out. I have copied the link below (if it will work) or you can go to http://www.kwch.com and find the link for: eyewitness news at 10 - sports Sunday - June 14th. After you find that, our story it about 4 min. and 48 seconds in.

ENJOY - and come watch a game if you want. We play the next two Sat. at Westside athletic fields at 9:30 and 11:15. (My team plays at 9:30)

Questions and Answers

Here are some more answers to some questions we have been asked.

1) Did she ask us to go to lunch or did we ask her?

Answer - I called her on Wednesday to ask how her doctors appointments were going and to see if she had any more questions for us. I left a voice mail so on the message I said that if she had more questions we could maybe go out to lunch or dinner to discuss them. - Then on Thursday she called and asked if we wanted to do lunch on Friday. We were thrilled and as you know we went to lunch on Friday.

2) What were her questions?

Answer - nothing new. We just discussed more of the things we already had.

3) Have we discussed the adoption plan?

Answer - Shortly. We know that her desires are to have a letter and pictures every year or two. She is not (or was not) keen on the idea of having meetings or get togethers. This is a very comfortable situation for Mark and I and we were happy to hear of her desires for the adoption plan. Of course she could change her mind still as there is nothing set in stone.

Thanks for your questions - I hope my answers made sense.

We are continuing to pray for patience and peace as we wait to hear if we will be blessed with a little miracle very soon. Knowing that our fa miles and friends are joining us in these prayers is powerful. THANKS!!!

Good news - sister-in-law

Hello everyone,

I am wanting to share with you the good news about my sister-in-law Brandi. She went to the doctor today and they found no nerve damage or muscle damage. That is the good news. They do not believe it is any of the major disorders she was fearing. However, that means they have no idea what is going on. They are going to do some more intensive blood work and she is going to get a second opinion next week sometime.

She sounds good and is trying to believe the good news, but is leery since they still don't have any definitive answers.

Thank you so much for you concern for her and her family the prayers were and are much needed and appreciated. Please continue them and I will continue to update you on her progress :)

The million dollar question

I should have put this in my last post, but maybe I didn't because it is a topic I'm trying to think about less. I've never had my patience tested so much. It's good for me right?

So the question is... When is she going to decided? - The answer still remains - WHENEVER SHE WANTS. We did not ask her when she thought she would decide as we don't want to pressure her into the decision. She is obviously putting a lot of thought and care into her decision, as she should.

As I stated before she can make this decision at any point she could decide tomorrow, in two weeks or on the day she delivers the baby. I know that it is a hard wait, but what we can do now is continue to pray for her as she tries to make her choice, pray for the baby that it continues to be health, and for Mark and I that we can stay at peace as we wait for her to make her choice.

Thanks in advance again, for all your thoughts and prayers - they are really paying off. I couldn't do it without all of you.

Lunch

To keep you updated Mark and I had lunch today with the birth mother. To our knowledge she has still not made her decision. We visited about many things and the conversation again went smoothly. It was nice to get to visit with her more and learn that the baby is still doing well. Everything looks to be on track for an on time delivery :) One month from TODAY!!!

Mark and I want to thank all of you for your continued support and prayers. We also want to thank you for not hounding us with phone calls and questions - that was the purpose of this blog and for the most part it has served its purpose. Please still feel free to post questions on the comments section of this blog and if we feel comfortable answering the question we will do so. Again, thanks for all your support and prayers - we will continue to keep you updated.

Prayers

I just wanted to update everyone on my sister-in-law Brandi.

Her symptoms are not getting any better :(

The reason I'm posting this morning for prayers is because she will be going to the doctor today to hopefully get some answers. The plan, as I understand it, is that they are going to run a slue of tests today. We are all very prayerful that this will be something reversible and she will have complete healing.

I will let you know as I find anything out, but wanted to request that you pray for her and Jeremy (Brandi's husband, Mark's brother) as she goes through the tests today.

Side note - to our knowledge the birth mother has not made her decision yet, today is one month from her due date! Prayers, Prayers, Prayers.

Still here

Just letting everyone know we are still here and while we are at it, I thought I'd post some pictures from Mark and I's recent trip to KC. We went up to visit our friends Kelsey and Marshal. We had a nice trip. The boys golfed Sat. morning while the girls went shopping :) On Sat. evening we went to a Royals game and watched them loose, but had a good time none the less. How can you not have a good time when funnel cake is involved!!!

Fiesta !!!

I had my end of the year party for my class this past Sat. and it went really well. Other than it being pretty darn hot. We set up our tent in the front lawn and served tacos and burritos out of our garage. Then we headed in for some much desired air conditioning and to watch the video slide show I put together for my class. We had great food, great company and a really great time! We ended up having 40 people come, and still had way to much food. (Good thing Mark and I like leftovers) Speaking of Mark I couldn't have done this without him. He was such a WONDERFUL help. I know most of you aren't surprised by this. He helped clean to get ready and when I came up from the basement after watching the slide show and passing out presents the food was all already brought inside :) I'm so blessed by him. That meant we were all ready for ice cream and some more visiting!

T-ball team

Some of you know this already, but I am coaching t-ball for the miracle league of Wichita this summer and LOVING it. We had our first game this past weekend and it was AWESOME!!! My team is the Yankees (I didn't pick that by the way). We play every Sat. in June at 9:30. The Miracle League is a league designed for children with disabilities. During our games every child gets to bat and every child is safe every inning. We still make plays at first and such, but no one is out. There is so much drive and determination in these kids that it is absolutely moving to be a part of this league. If you can watch one of these games and not leave inspired we need to talk.

More questions

So these questions were not from you all, but from the birth mother. She called today to ask Mark and I a few more questions.

#1) Will I continue to work after we have a child?

Answer - yes, I love my job. This is not to say that I would love my job more than my child, because obviously I wouldn't. I just can't imagine not doing what I do. I feel like I was born to do two things. This work and be a mommy! Being a teacher definitely has its perks in this area as well, as I'd have all holidays off with our children and summers. (I don't imagine I'll teach summer school after we have a family)

#2) What kind of care will we look for for our child?

Answer - well, Mark and I haven't really looked that much into this as we are trying not to get ahead of ourselves, but our gut feeling tells us we would find a daycare provider who works out of their home rather than a daycare facility. Not 100% sure on this one.

Just wanted to share that she called with more questions and that means, she hasn't made up her mind yet.

Please continue to pray for the baby, the birth mother, and Mark and I.

Still here/Prayers

Just wanted to let you know that we still don't know anything more than we've already posted.

I also wanted to take another opportunity to thank everyone for their love and support. Please continue to pray for the baby, the birth mother, and us!

That is not the prayers, however, that I am requesting in the title.

My sister-in-law, Brandi, has been ill the past week, with some pretty scary symptoms. Her fine motor skills are deteriorating :( She has had an MRI and blood work, but still no answers. She was going to a neurologist this a.m. to hopefully get some answers. Please pray that they get those answers and that the problem is something that can subside and the symptoms will go away. She is handling this all like a champ as she stays at home with her 3 girls. One of which is a new born baby.

Thanks in advance for the prayers you extend to her and her family.

Answers to questions

OK - so the million dollar question is one I can't answer.

Question #1 - EVERYONE wants to know - When will you find out for sure if she picks us???

ANSWER - Whenever the birth mom decides. She could decide today or she could decide in 6 weeks. Until then we can continue to pray for the baby, the birth mother and throw in a little extra prayer for peaceful patience.

Question #2 - Do we know the sex of the baby???

ANSWER - Yes, and if this all works out we will not share (your turn to practice patience)

Question #3 - Did she like or dislike the K-state baby room???

ANSWER - it didn't seem to be an issue as her parents were K-state football ticket holders as she grew up and she seemed to have some fond memories of going to games herself. - I mean come on who would have a problem with K-state :)

Thanks for the questions - I hope I answered them all, if not please ask again.

And as always thanks for your prayers and support, we have been overwhelmed in the past week with all the love and support we have received from our family and friends. The amount of rosary's that were said, the candles that were lit, the adoration hours devoted, the masses that were attended, and the MANY MANY prayers that were said. We are so blessed to have you all as a support system.
